When the summer sets in, you’ll want to hop into the skimpier clothes. This may mean your spaghetti strap tops, sleeveless tops, loose dresses, or your favorite bralettes. Whatever you prefer, you should ensure you are donning as few layers as possible in order to stay cool.
One of the options you have when it comes to summer wear is the bandeau shirt or bandeau dress.
What is a Bandeau Bra?
A bandeau shirt or bra is a type of clothing made from a strip of stretchy material. The material is sewn to look like a band and worn around the chest.
Generally, bandeau shirts and bras do not have heavy straps. The clothes are usually made of stretchy, form-fitting material that keeps them in place.
There are a number of differences between a bandeau bra and a strapless bra. First off, the bandeau does not have a cup. Most of the times, the sistas are supported by a built-in shelf bra. Apart from this, a bandeau bra looks more like a tube top than a bra. The bandeau is usually lined with a horizontal seam on the top and bottom of the bra.
Plus Size Bandeau Bra
For many years, bandeaus were specifically designed for women up to a size 8 or 10. However, over the last few years, more manufacturers have started making plus size bandeaus as society has become more positive towards plus size women.
You may have noticed that more plus size women are showing off some skin, and people have gotten used to it. This is a positive thing.
As a big-boobed teen, my experience at a plus size store was quite terrifying. The clothes reserved for us with big busts were typically “old” fashioned. They did not have any interesting prints and neither were they fun to wear. I remember the clothes were cut really large, perhaps subtly remaining us to “cover up!”.
Like is the case with the bra industry, the clothing industry has started making fashionable clothes for plus size women. Today, brands like Torrid, Lane Bryant, and Ashley Stewart have a whole lot of plus size clothing that is fashionable and celebrates the female body
Support Level
From the way bandeau bras are made, it is understandable that they don’t provide a lot of support. Most of the bandeaus on the market have shelf bras instead of underwire cups. The clothes are also usually made of stretchy material and have no straps. Apart from this, they are not adjustable.
With the lack of underwires, straps, and adjustability, there is literally no support you can expect from bandeaus.
In this guide, I present 12 plus size bandeaus that you’ll need in your closet for the summer.
Why Wear a Bandeau Bra?
Bandeaus and bralettes are somewhat related. These two garments are designed to be worn when you need support but also want a relaxed fit. You can wear the clothes under a strapless dress or shirt, or a sheer layer of clothing.
However, there are a number of bandeau bras that are designed to be worn as outerwear. You can wear these garments over a shirt or pants, under loose clothing with big neck or arm holes, or under a jacket.
Bandeaus that Offer Support
Sometimes, you may be able to get away with just wearing a bandeau bra up to a D or E cup. This is especially if you have self-supporting bras.
However, if you need more support, you should consider wearing a strapless bra underneath a bandeau shirt or tube top.
Best Plus Size Bandeau Bra
Below is an overview of the best bandeau bras for plus size.
Aah by Rhonda Sheer Women’s Angle Seamless Underwire Bandeau Bra
Designed to be worn underneath your cloths, the Angle seamless bra comes in sizes XS- 2X. The bra has no supporting built-in underwire and is not cup-sized. Therefore, I’m not sure whether it will fit your breasts. The bra can also be shipped with nipple pads.
You would probably want to wear the Angel seamless bra under a tank top or spaghetti strap dress. However, you can also wear it with one of the darker colors under a sheer shirt or a shirt with big cutouts that would prevent the underwire from being seen.

Lucy Clothing – Nikibiki Bandeau
The Nikibiki Bandeau looks like a tube top and should be worn with a strapless bra under your clothes. While it won’t help to reduce the number of layers you are wearing, the cloth will come handy in situations where you’ve got sheer clothing and do not want your underpinnings to show.
Available on Amazon
Glamorise Strapless Leisure Bra
The Glamorise strapless plus size bandeau bra comes in different band and cup sizes. The bandeau accommodates from B – D cup and goes up to band size 48. The cloth also has a hook and eye closure in the back, which is something that many bandeau bras have.
However, this Glamorise bandeau runs somehow small. Therefore, you may want to get a higher size. You can wear the bandeau with your casual tops. However, you don’t want to use it as an alternative to a strapless bra as it does not offer the support required.
Another bandeau bra for plus size that is similar to the Glamorise option is the Carole Martin strapless comfort wireless bra.

The Tube Top Company’s Zen Curvy Girl Bra
I just recently came across the Tube Top company. Like their name suggests, the firm makes all types of tube-tip clothes, and they have some nice variety for plus size women. Among their clothes are bandeau bras.
The Tube Top Curvy Girl bandeau comes in just one size: 22 – 24. The bandeau has a bra insert, just in case you need to keep it modest. You can wear the bandeau as a standalone bra. However, women with self-naturally supporting breasts will get the best results.

Fishnet & Ribbon Unlined Scoop Bandeau Bra
If you read my roundup of bralette bras, you may remember that I talked about bralette-ish bras that I’d come across. In the same vein, there are also some bandeau-ish bras. The Fishnet & Ribbon is one of them.
This bandeau for plus size has and underwire, adjustable back, and straps.
How does it fare? The bandeau has a nice lace overlay above the cups that make it look tube-ish. If you want a bandeau that offers a little bit more support, and don’t mind the straps, this Fishnet & Ribbon could work.

Bandeau Strapless Bra
Lane Bryant offers a more traditional bandeau. This seamless bra has an underwire for separation. However, the separation is not as pronounced as is offered by typical strapless bras.
The plus size bandeau has rubberized strips on the top and bottom of the bra keep the breasts in place. However, while this bandeau offers some form of support, much of it comes from the very taut fit, which some ladies find a little bit tricky to put on.

Black Swirl Lace Bandeau Bralette
This garment from Torrid is a combo of a bralette and a bandeau. So, what should we call it? I really don’t know. However, the clothe has a lacy finish and, therefore, can be worn under sheer clothing,
These types of bandeaus also work well when worn under a dress with a very low neck to conceal cleavage. Torrid does not flinch when it comes to the support offered by this bandeau. The manufacturers advise to wear it with a bra if you want some lift.
Available on HankyPanky
Wacoal Women’s Halo Strapless Bra
This bandeau comes with a big band size of 38 and is, therefore, a plus size. This Wacoal bandeau is a solid option if you want less cup definition and smoother lines than you’ll get in a standard strapless bra. The Halo bra would be best worn under a shirt in with sheer or thin fabric.
If you want something similar to the Halo bra but that does not have a lace finish, get the Lilyette by Bali Women’s #939 Tailored Minimizer Bra.

Curvy Sense Plus Size Seamless Bandeau Bra
The Curvy Sense Plus Size bra is padded for some coverage and is available in different colors. The bandeau is long enough such that it would be perfect for wearing as a top on its own. Alternatively, you can don the bra over a high-waist pant or skirt.
If you prefer a modest look, this bra would also be great for hiding the sheer clothing.
