What is a balconette bra? Read on to find out.
Balconette bras are also known as balcony bras. The name was derived from an architectural structure, typically a railed platform that is elevated and protrudes from a tall building. People either call this type of bra balcony or balconette depending on what name they give the above structural attribute. The whole idea is the bra’s function in relation to the breasts that’s why in the original design, the neckline tends to lay horizontally across the chest. So, what exactly is a balconette bra?
The original design of the balconette bra was manufactured in 1937 but only came into style in the 1950’s. This was when the famous Marilyn Monroe modelled in a balconette bra hence the association with the starlet.
What’s the most distinguishing feature of a balconette bra? The straps and cups. The bra cups usually offer less coverage as compared to a regular demi to emphasize your cleavage. Unlike in a push up, a balconette bra only allows you to show off the curves but doesn’t necessarily enhance its appearance.
A balconette bra has wide set straps that sit closer at the edge without slipping off the shoulders. At this point, the name doesn’t really matter whether you choose to call it balcony or balconette bra, as long as you feel comfortable in it.
