Using the Bra Size Chart

There are over 70 bra sizes ranging from cups AA to I and band sizes 30 up to 48. Check out the bra size chart above to perfect your fit with your current size as the starting point.

Keep these in mind when trying to find your correct size using the bra sizing chart:

  • Moving from the left to the right increases the band size. Move towards the right or left to get a perfect fit.
  • Moving from the top to bottom increases the cup size. To get a perfect fit, you can either go down or up the columns. Do the same by half a cup if you fall in between sizes.
  • Bra sizes in the same row are sister sizes. This means, they have the same cup volume but different letters. For instance, bra sizes 40A, 38B and 36C are in the same row with different cup letters and band sizes but the same cup volume. This also applies to bra sizes 48C, 46D, 44E, 42F, 40G and 38H.

Let’s see if you are wearing your bra correctly:

  • Ensure you are wearing your bra on the loosest hook?
  • Scoop and swoop your breasts to ensure they are fully contained in the cups for ultimate support?
  • Adjust the straps for a comfort fit on the shoulders. You can loosen them a bit to alleviate cup overflow or tighten to eliminate gaping

How Do You Know the Bra Fits Correctly?

Here’s how each part of the bra should look on the body:

Band

It should fit comfortably and snugly when wearing the bra on the loosest hook. This way, you can always move to the next hook as the band tends to stretch out overtime. It shouldn’t ride up the back and should also be parallel to the ground.

Cups

The bra cups should fully contain the breast tissue without spilling over at the top or gaping.

Straps

Adjustable straps would be ideal to customize fit. The straps should fit snugly on the shoulders without slipping off or digging into the skin. They should also sit in the middle of the shoulders for all day comfort.

Underwire

The underwires are supposed to sit comfortably right under the breasts to provide optimal support without digging into the skin. It shouldn’t lay below the ribcage or on the breast tissue.

Gore

The gore, otherwise known as bra’s bridge is where the two cups join. It should lay flat against the sternum and not dig in or hover over your chest.

Finding the Right Bra Size Quick Fixes and Tips

If the band fits perfectly well yet the bra cups feel:

  • A tad too small – Go up a cup size by half an inch especially if you experience a minor overflow. For a major overflow, going up a full cup size would be ideal.
  • Too big – If you experience minor gaping size up by half an inch and a full cup for major gaping.

If the cups have a perfect fit yet the bra’s band feels:

  • A tad too small – Go up a band size
  • Too big – Go down a band size

If both the cups and band don’t fit:

Both the band and cups are big – Size down both the cups and band. With your current size as the starting point, move towards the left on the sizing chart to decrease the band size then move up to size down the cups as well.

Both the band and cups are small – Size up the cups and band. With your current bra size as the starting point, move towards the right on the sizing chart to increase the band size then move down to size up the cups.
